Lennart A.W. Bjorkman
Lennart A.W. Bjorkman was born on July 25, 1895 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. His parents were Swedish immigrants, Axel Lennart Bjorkman and Ellen (Elsa) A. Hedoig. In 1900, Bjorkman and his parents moved to Winchester, Massachusetts. In the next several years Lennart attended formal school and continued his education at the Salem Normal School (now known as Salem State University). Despite the unfortunate death of his mother in 1916, Lennart graduated in June of 1917. Bjorkman became a draftsman for the Navy Department only one month after graduating, on July 28, 1917. After working for the Navy Department for 16 months Bjorkman had enlisted into the Army as a Private in October of 1918. World War One had ended in November of the same year and Lennart had been discharged in December.
