Thomas Talbot Comes to Billerica

Thomas Talbot, though born in New York, worked with his brother Charles in Massachusetts as a mill worker. Eventually the two set out on a venture to establish a mill of their own. Settling in Billerica, Massachusetts, the pair created the Talbot Mills. While Charles would move north to Lowell to be a part of the booming mill industry of the city, Thomas remained in Billerica for the rest of his life. As a former mill worker himself, Talbot had a special appreciation for the labor of the mills and was known locally as an individual who provided some of the highest wages and best housing for mill workers in the area.
