South Boston High School, 1974
Despite lobbying against forced busing, Boston went ahead and implemented it at the start of the 1974 school year. One school that took place in the busing was South Boston High School. A predominately white, Irish-American student body, South Boston High had some students bussed out, while African American students were bussed in. As forced integration began, the reaction was of outrage and anger. African American busses were stoned, and confrontations were daily.
