Decolonizing the Record

We believe that part of decolonizing the cultural record should involve centering authors and contributors from the Global South. While we’ve created this project as Global Northerners, we have worked to make space for the voices from the Global South that we have found in the archive. We rely in these exhibits on voices from indigenous populations, diaspora of enslaved people, and ancestors who carry traditions to contribute in all formats they can: stories transcribed or orally passed on; images and scans of artifacts; recordings of songs and performances; recipes. We hope future contributions from institutions and individuals will come from around the globe and especially the Global South. If you are interested in contributing, please contact Keja Valens at kvalens@slamestate.edu.
