China Sails

China Sails was a Chinese restaurant created in the 1950s showing a stark contrast between its portrayal of a foreign restaurant compared to the others. This is mainly because being a Chinese restaurant and not being an American Chinese restaurant was more accepted at this time in America. The evidence of being just a Chinese restaurant in America rather than being an American Chinese restaurant is that there is no American symbols like in the other two examples, there is still American food however it is in the back and not in the front. A reason for there being American Chinese restaurants vs being a Chinese restaurant in America, was the racism towards Chinese people before activists really started taking charge in the 1950s. Laws such as the Queue Ordinance, and the Cubic air Ordinance that slapped racial injustices on Chinese people, which was why they used Americanization to bring customers to their restaurants. By the time china sails was made individualism was more accepted and being simply a Chinese restaurant in America was alright.
