Nicholas Guidara

Nicholas Guidara

Nicholas Guidara was stationed outside of Salem during World War ll and was in frequent contact with Miss McGlynn during that time. In one letter on October 21, 1942, he asks her for a letter of recomendation to advance to a better position in the army. This is a very imporatant example of the influence that Salem had in the world. People from outside of Salem that were a part of the United States army wanted an opinion from someone in Salem, specifically a letter. This letter was probably full of Northern language and slang, well as a different writing style that the recipients were not used to. This leter is a perfect example of cultural ticks of languages. In addition, Miss McGlynn's opinion held weight with people who did not even know her, which shows how communication between different people grew through World War ll for the people of Salem.
