Polish Art Influence in Salem, Massachusetts

Despite the working conditions, there were many jobs available to immigrants upon arrival. In the 1930's it became increasingly common for Polish people to work in factories, yet some began to create small, local businesses which helped to improve the economy in Salem. These companies included a range of categories, including food markets, bakeries and even medical care. Those affiliated with the St. Joseph Society were even offered health benefits and insurance. Among their economical contributions, they also brought their culture to Salem. Their food and mostly their art, was appreciated by locals and is still used today and shown at festivals.
