Salem's Polish Community

Polish Community of Salem Massachusetts

In the late 1800's and early 1900's, Polish immigrants arrived in Salem, Massachusetts. Most of their history revolves around St. Joseph's Hall on Derby Street in Salem, built in 1906. Yet, the St. Joseph Society was founded earlier in 1899 as a branch of the National Polish Roman Catholic Union of America. This society supported Polish culture, politics, sports and hosted social events. This helped Polish people adjust to life in America, but incorporate their own culture into Salem as well.
